HD TV now firmly in the mainstream

With a fantastic season of sport ahead and some of the biggest films of the past year coming to TV for the first time, it’s a perfect time to make the leap into the superior world of HD TV, to catch all the action in the highest quality available.

The UK’s big digital switchover is scheduled for 2012, but that’s no reason to delay in upgrading to a digital service this year, especially with the excellent range of offers available for those looking to combine their ideal TV package with broadband internet and calls to save even more on their services.

The Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB) has revealed that nine out of 10 homes have already switched to a digital service, meaning there are some great offers available right now as providers lure the remaining 10 per cent of viewers into the world of digital entertainment. Even more are only benefiting from the limited channels of standard Freeview services, lacking the freedom to customise their ideal digital TV package and only pay for the channels they want to watch.

High quality television doesn’t end at digital, especially with high definition TV driving some of the strongest growth in the market this year. Now that high definition technology has finally entered the mainstream, viewers have access to the best quality picture and sound that has ever been available in their homes, especially as tough competition sees the price of HD-ready TVs and entertainment packages becoming affordable for all, whether they buy from high street stores or online.

There are many benefits of HD TV, not only in keeping your home up-to-date but also in letting you watch shows and broadcasts as the creators originally intended. The higher resolution of progressive display technology can be around 10 times clearer than standard TV picture quality, with a widescreen ratio being ideal for watching Hollywood blockbusters and sports without missing any of the action on the sidelines.

The move away from outdated interlaced displays has also been vital in finally eliminating ‘ghost’ images and other faults that have plagued TV broadcasts in past decades, meaning viewers can now watch TV shows with all the clarity of a high definition DVD. The best news for those considering making the leap into HD is that the magnitude in quality is not reflected in inflated prices, with a Sky HD offer only costing a little more than standard digital package.
